Steve Valenzuela

Steve Valenzuela - Consultant, Odyssey Consulting Group

Steve is an accomplished Senior Developer and IT manager currently working as a consultant for Odyssey Consulting and soon to be Director of Engineering for a tech startup in Anaheim. In his previous job, he was the Chief Architect/Director of Engineering for Clupedia Corporation. During his many years as an IT Professional and .NET Developer, he has gained a broad range of technical expertise. Some recent projects have included the design and delivery of server-side platforms utilizing Microsoft’s Windows Communication Foundation, AJAX enabled ASP.NET application frameworks, and rich client-side applications leveraging Microsoft’s Windows Presentation Foundation in conjunction with server-side communication.

In addition to his work as a technology professional and engineering director, Steve also enjoys sharing his knowledge with his peers. He has presented at conferences such as UCEA-West, TechEd, and CVC as well as Southern California developer user groups such as LA C# and SoCal DotNet. He has also co-authored a book on the DotNetNuke open source ASP.NET framework.

A Microsoft Certified Trainer and MCSE since 1998, Joey has spent the past twelve years working in various Information Technology roles specializing in Microsoft technologies for a fortune 500 company as well as working as a consultant for a key Microsoft partner delivering Hands On technical content and solutions at events such as TechEd, TechReady, and PDC. Joey has also recently presented instructor led labs at TechEd and the Vista TAP Airlift. Joey has recently joined Microsoft in the Developer and Platform Evangelist team as an IT Pro Evangelist.

ITPro Session 3 - Basic SQL Server Reporting Services

This talk will cover all that is new and wonderful in Reporting Services 2008. Some of the topics to be covered include the new Tablix Control and the new Charting capabilities. We will also highlight some of the major administration changes such as the removing of IIS as a requirement for Reporting Services. Reporting Services just keeps getting better with every release and SQL 2008 is no different. Come to this session to get in on all the wonderful features in Reporting Services 2008.

In addition to his training career he has spent over 10 years consulting with many Fortune 1000 companies like Ford Motor Company, IBM, 5th 3rd Bank Corp, McDonalds, Pacific Western, OSI Systems, Rapiscan Systems, ADP, PGA, St John's Medical Center, Apple Computers, UCLA Medical Center, The MS Society of Canada, Illumicell, DMB&B, Pacific Western, and Miller Brewing company.

ITPro Session 4 - SQL Troubleshooting / Performance Case Study

In this session we will take a look at a real life case study requiring troubleshooting and optimizing of SQL for a web based application.

We will look at:

  • How to read and analyze PerfMon data.
  • Moving from SQL 32 to 64 bit
  • Using SQL in a virtual environment
  • SQL Clustering, High Availability and Redundancy.

Reza Madani is a principal architect with HarborObjects, a Microsoft partner in Newport Beach, CA. He has over 20 years of experience designing and developing enterprise software solutions and is the current president of Orange County .NET User Group.

Session Abstract - SSIS for SQL Server 2008

Session Abstract - New Data Types in SQL Server 2008

For all you T-SQL lovers, this is the session for you. We will be covering the new Data Types that are being introduced in SQL Server 2008. First we will take a look at the new Date\Time data types and show how they can be utilized. The Hierarchy ID will be the next stop in our Data Type tour allowing us to easily build hierarchical applications. We will also take a look at the new FileStream object opening up the ability to easily store files in SQL Server. In addition, to those we will also check out the new Table Valued Parameters and Large User Defined Types. This session will be jam packed with all kinds of goodies that you can use for your database development.

Lynn Langit is a Microsoft Developer Evangelist in Southern California. She supports the local developer community and speaks to the community about the latest and greatest topics in .NET development. Her blog is http://blogs.msdn.com/SoCalDevGal. Prior to joining Microsoft, she was the founder and lead architect of WebFluent, which for the past six years has trained users and developers in building BI solutions. A holder of numerous Microsoft certifications, including MCT, MCITP, MCDBA, MCSD.NET, MCSE, and MSF, Lynn also has ten years’ experience in business management. This unique background makes her particularly qualified to share her expertise in developing successful real-world BI solutions using SQL Server. Lynn published 'Foundations of SQL Server 2005 Business Intelligence' (APress/2007) and is currently working on a new book on BI in SQL Server 2008.

Session Abstract - What's new in SQL Server 2008 SSAS

OLAP cubes play a key role in a business intelligence solution as the primary data container for other phases of SQL Server BI platform. In this session, Lynn will put together an SSAS OLAP cube demonstrating key features of SSAS with an emphasis on 2008 new features.

Matt Penner

Matt Penner - Database Engineer and GIS Administrator for VVUSD

Matt is a database engineer and the GIS Administrator for the Val Verde Unified School District in Perris, CA. He has been an avid developer since the days of Basic on an old XT and loves to be involved with technology on the cutting edge. As an officer in the Inland Empire .NET User's Group he enjoys regular discussions with fellow colleagues and presenters about development strategies and the future of technology. He has been an administrator of Microsoft SQL Server since version 6.5 and a .Net developer since 1.0. As a GIS developer for the last couple of years his "daily work" projects often include managing and manipulating spatial data.

Steve Rosso - Microsoft Certified Professional

Steven has over fifteen years experience as a technical professional in the Information Technology industry. He has job experience programming in Visual Basic .Net, C#, XML Web Services, MOSS 2007, Paradox, Dbase III, Business Basic (Bbx), Access, Visual Basic, Crystal Reports, HTML, DHTML, SQL Server, MTS, ADO.Net, ASP, ASP.Net and 68030 Motorola Assembly language. He has worked with the Visual Studio .Net since beta 1 and Visual Basic since version 3.

Steven authored a .Net MCAD Bootcamp that focused on C# and SQL Server 2000 which was taught at night and all of the students were successful in passing the exams. He also designed study groups for the students just before they took the exams. He also authored a BizTalk course for Microsoft.

Since 1999, Steven has taught Visual Basic, Visual Interdev, Javascript and Frontpage classes. More recently, he has taught all Microsoft .NET courses on subjects such as such as Visual Studio 2005, ASP.Net and ASP.Net 2.0, VB.Net, C#, ADO.Net, XML, Web Services, BizTalk 2004 and 2006, SQL Server 2000 and 2005, SharePoint portal Server 2003 and Commerce Server.

In addition to teaching, Steven has developed a number of Visual Studio .Net Windows and Web-based applications to meet unique client need. Most recently he has written 1) an ASP.Net/SQL Server database application that included Crystal Reports 9.0, Internet Explorer 6.0 DHTML and XML, 2) a VB.Net Windows application used to create and transfer XML files that were validated using a large XML Schema, 3) a web service in C# and the corresponding ASP.Net front-end application in VB.Net that also employed the use of Vector Markup Language (VML).

Steven has authored several hands-on labs with associated exams to meet the specific needs of a client. The labs cover various topics such as Visual Basic and Visual Basic .Net, C#, BizTalk 2004/2006, ASP.Net AJAX (Atlas), SharePoint Portal Server, Visual SourceSafe, Data Structures, Source Control, SQL Server, XML Web Services, ADO, ASP, Windows Scripting Host, Windows Management Instrumentation and Javascript.
